The Transom Audio Narrative Short Course is a traveling workshop that will return to Interlochen College of Creative Arts in 2017. This workshop provides participants not just an introduction to the basics, but it delves intensely into some advanced elements of radio story planning, structure and writing, fieldwork and digital audio editing. All participants in the program will produce a four-minute profile of a creative resident of northern Michigan. Works completed during the workshop will be considered for airing on Interlochen Public Radio. Ideal for beginning producers, experienced podcasters, and anyone already familiar with digital audio editing and fieldwork, this workshop is perfect for those who have an interest in producing sound-rich stories with a strong narrative. While previous experience in radio storytelling or journalism isn’t required, it is preferred. Workshop participants should be creative, dedicated storytellers or journalists with a strong set of entry-level skills. In order to participate, those interested must undergo a pre-screening process and be invited to register. If accepted into the program, tuition covers: instruction and mentorship from Rob Rosenthal and the Interlochen Public Radio staff; your own copy of Hindenberg Journalist editing software to keep; and access to studio facilities and field recording equipment (including headphones, microphone and audio recorder). You will need to bring your own laptop computer to load the software and produce work during the course. Additional costs include food and transportation to and from the workshop as well as transportation during the workshop for fieldwork. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org regarding any questions you may have about the course.
Upon submitting the $15 application fee, applicants will be required to email email@example.com with a brief paragraph about your interest in the workshop. Please include information about your background and skills, and a link (or attachment) to an mp3 or other audio recording produced by you. Review of applicants will begin in early January and the deadline for pre-screening is March 15. All applicants will be notified by early April regarding their admissions status and those invited into the program will receive a direct link to complete their workshop registration online. Lodging and meals are not included in the course fee, however facilitation for shared lodging is available.
