Join award-winning pastel artist, Tom Tomasek in this two-day workshop and learn how to create a meaningful landscape painting using soft pastels. The instructor will share strategies for creating a simple and yet compelling landscape composition and will cover techniques for capturing natural light and shadow in your work. Students will explore developing an underpainting using sanded pastel paper, pastels, and odorless mineral spirits using a process that can be applied to both studio work and plein air painting. Different pastel painting foundations will be covered as well as the properties of both soft and hard pastels. Toward the end of the day, students will also learn about proper presentation and special considerations for matting work. Each student will have the opportunity to walk away from the workshop with a completed piece that is matted and ready for framing and hanging. This workshop is for artists of all skill levels and the instructor will provide personal attention to each participant, allowing each student to grow and develop their skills. Students must bring recommended pastels from the supply list.
