Join fiber artist Rita Petteys in this 2-day workshop to explore multi-color dyeing processes and learn two or more Japanese fiber arts techniques: Arashi Shibori (pleating and tying) and Itajime Shibori (folding and embedding objects). Each technique will be shown in presentation and in-class demonstration. Examples of finished pieces will be available for participants to examine before they begin working on each technique. A discussion of the Ori-Nui Shibori technique will start on the first day of class, to give everyone sufficient time to prepare their materials. Participants will dye two scarves for each day’s techniques for a total of four silk scarves (14 x 72”). Topics to be covered include but are not limited to, mixing and measuring materials (the goods to be dyed, the dyes and fixatives), color concepts, and extensive directions on resist techniques. Treat yourself to two days of creative enrichment, while expanding your knowledge of color and dyeing techniques, while working with an expert instructor who will help you execute your creative vision!
