2020 Adult Choir Camp directed by Jerry Blackstone:
Join adult singers from across North America and experience the joy of choral singing in a challenging, supportive and friendly environment. Under the direction of award-winning conductor Dr. Jerry Blackstone, participants will enjoy an immersive opportunity singing with fellow participants in a full vocal ensemble. Included in the camp experience are daily vocal warm-ups, sectional rehearsals led by talented faculty section leaders, enriching afternoon discussions, and the fellowship of colleagues and faculty as a part of evening social activities. The camp experience culminates with a final public performance in Corson Auditorium on the last day. Repertoire is tailored to the size and experience of the ensemble overall and selections for 2020 will be announced in the spring, with works mailed approximately one month in advance to enrolled participants. In order to fully participate in this experience, enrollees must be able to read music and must have some experience performing in a vocal ensemble.
Vocal Pedagogy for the Choral Singer with Lindsey Van de Kirk:
This course is geared toward the adult choir singer with little or no prior vocal training and a perfect warm-up for those interested in attending the Adult Choir Camp. Topics covered in this 8-hour workshop include proper inspiration (both quick and slow), breath management, the importance of vowels, proper use of the articulators, consonants, eliminating inappropriate tension, and managing the vocal registers. Participants may bring their own yoga mat and a head rest roughly 1 1/2" thick. Interlochen will also provide yoga mats for your use.
